OREO STACKING CONTEST Thursday, August 5, 3:00 p.m. Family Fun Center Ages: 4-12 • Each participant will have 60 seconds to stack as many sandwich cookies in a single stack as they can. • Cookie stack must stand for at least 10 seconds after time is called. • Participant with tallest standing stack wins. • Participants can only use hands to stack. *on-site registration available, 40 minutes in advance! TURTLE RACE Saturday, August 7, 12:00 p.m. Family Fun Center Ages: 3-10 • Turtles entered must be tortoise (hard shell, box turtle) land species variety. No snapping or soft-shell turtles. • Turtles will be placed in center of 10’ circle. First turtle to have ENTIRE body outside of circle wins *on-site registration available, 40 minutes in advance! WATER FLIPPER RACE Friday, August 6, 2:30 p.m. Family Fun Center Ages: 4-12 • Pre-Registration Required—limited to first 8 participants per division, no alternates • Water flippers provided. LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST Sunday, August 8, 1:00 p.m. Cattle Barn Ages: 8-18 and 19+ On-site registration only. • Teams made up of 4 people. • Each Team member will do each part of the contest and the scores will be tabulated together giving the team score. Judging Rules • There will be 4 classes of animals—Market Steer, Market Hog, Market Lamb, Beef Breeding • Each Class will include 4 animals • Officials will rank all 4 animals from the best to the least desirable. • Contestants will be given a score card to use • Contestants will get ten minutes at each animal class before rotating • Each animal will be clearly numbered for identification • Contestants will not be allowed to communicate with one another • Infractions of this rule will be cause for elimination or point penalty at judge’s discretion. • Contestants will not be allowed to handle the livestock.

Plans are underway for the Washington Town & Country Fair Parade, scheduled for Sunday, August 2. Each year, a Grand Marshal and Honor Group are selected to lead the parade. The awards are designed to recognize an outstanding individual (Grand Marshal) and organization (Honor Group) that better our community through service, leadership, and volunteerism. This year, the parade committee has chosen to recognize our “Healthcare Heroes” as the honor group, but nominations are still being sought for the Grand Marshal.
Nomination forms must be submitted by March 31, 2021. Completed forms can be returned to the Chamber Office (323 W Main Street, Washington) or e-mailed to the Fair Office. Applications are now available for the Washington Town & Country Fair Livestock Scholarship. At least 2 - $500.00 college scholarships will be awarded. These scholarships are funded 100% by the exhibitors themselves from a 1% deduction in all Blue Ribbon Auction checks. Applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce office or online at washmofair.com.
Applicants must be seniors in high school and must have exhibited livestock of any species, market or breeding, at the Washington Town & Country Fair at some time before their senior year. Applicants must also be residents of Franklin or an adjoining county. Applications are available at washmofair.com and may be requested by e-mailing the Fair Office. Completed applications must be returned to the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce – 323 W Main Street, Washington MO 63090, or e-mailed to the Fair Office no later than March 31, 2021. Market Steers and Dairy Cows to be entered in the 2021 Washington Town & Country Fair will be tagged on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A snow date of February 20, 2021 has been set if weather does not permit tagging to take place on February 13. If necessary, postponement due to weather will be announced on the Fair's website and Facebook page. Information will also be provided to KLPW and The Missourian. The tagging will be held at the Livestock Pavilion at the Washington City Park Fairgrounds. Exhibitors will be allowed to tag two market steers or dairy cows, but may only enter one. Market steer weight at fair time must be 1,000 to 1,450 lbs.
THE EXHIBITOR MUST BE PRESENT AT THE TAGGING. All exhibitors, regardless of age, MUST BE accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Relatives or friends will not be allowed to tag the animal for an exhibitor. All Junior Exhibitors must be a member in good standing of a 4-H Club or FFA Chapter, and they must be enrolled in the project they are exhibiting. Market class Junior Exhibitors must be from Franklin or an adjoining county. Complete rules for the Junior Livestock Exhibitors will be e-mailed to exhibitors and available at washmofair.com the week of Feb. 8. COVID-19 Procedures: Attendees must remain in their vehicle until otherwise directed by a Fair Representative. All Attendees will be required to wear masks. The Washington Town & Country Fair is accepting applications for the 2021 Fair Queen Contest. Contestants must be citizens of the United States, female, and a resident of Franklin or an adjoining county. Contestants must also be a resident of Missouri for no fewer than six months as of July 15, 2021. Contestants shall be a high school graduate, of no more than 22 years of age on September 1, 2021, and must be single. The 2021 Fair Queen will receive a $2,500.00 scholarship, First Runner-up $1,000.00, Second Runner-up $750.00, and Miss Congeniality will receive a $500.00 scholarship. The Queen Contest Committee has scheduled activities for all the contestants including a Contestant/Sponsor Luncheon, “A Day of Professionalism”, “A Day Washington”, Run/Walk, and Parade. The Washington Town & Country Fair Board is organizing an event for locals to get a mid-winter Fair Food “fix” on Saturday, January 23, 2-7 p.m. at the Washington Knights of Columbus. For those interested in skipping the line on Saturday, an online ordering option is available. Orders must be placed by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, and require payment via credit/debit card when the order is placed. Those placing pre-orders must choose a time to pick-up their order or have it delivered (within Washington City Limits). Limited spaces are available each hour for pick-up and delivery orders. In-person orders will be accepted Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. Payment via credit/debit card or Apple/Google Pay is preferred, but cash will also be accepted. Well friends, it’s been a tough year and we are ALL feeling it. We know that throughout our community, people continue to adapt and pivot, time and again. Our Fair Board, 25 hard-working volunteers who love bringing a week of fun and memories to Washington, are experiencing the same struggles in their individual lives. At the same time, we look optimistically toward August 2021.
The budget process for the 2021 Fair was extensive, with each line-item reviewed, discussed, and trimmed as much as possible, while still maintaining the caliber of entertainment and excitement everyone has come to expect from our fair. As mentioned in our 2020 cancellation announcement, the Chamber and Fair boards have an obligation to ensure the long-term viability of the Fair – for the sake of the Chamber, for the sake of every organization that raises funds through the Fair, and for the sake of future Washingtonians that will raise livestock, sing along at a concert, ride the Ferris Wheel, and cover their ears at a tractor pull. With that obligation in mind, it was clear during our budget process that a season ticket price increase would be necessary. The 2021 regular season ticket prices still provide a substantial savings compared to our daily tickets, averaging $13/day (adults) and $9/day (children). Rides, exhibits, concerts, and motorsports events will continue to be included with admission, providing exceptional value at a reasonable price. To ease confusion, we have also removed the terms “pre-season” and “at gate” from season passes. Now we list the “regular price” of a ticket, which is the price of a ticket bought during the Fair. A series of discounts will be offered over the next few months. The value of the discounts will decrease as we get closer to August. As a “thank you” to our loyal fair supporters, a few years ago we began offering a limited-time Family 4-Pack discount, which included 2 adult and 2 child season passes. This year, we have chosen to offer a steep discount on individual season passes, instead of packaging them in a 4-pack, so more families and individuals can take advantage of the savings and get exactly the tickets they need. Tickets go on sale Cyber Monday, November 30 at 6 a.m. Adult season passes have a $20 discount, and Child season passes have a $15 discount. The special pricing is automatic and does not require a promo code. Tickets can be purchased online through our ticketing partner, e-tix. A box office at the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce will not be available until June, and discounts only apply to purchases made through the website. Important: In the event the entire fair is canceled, an automatic refund will be applied to your purchasing card. For instance, in 2020, the Fair itself was canceled and refunds were issued. We then planned a stand-alone livestock show, but we never would have expected ticket purchasers to think that event alone was a substitute for the entire Fair. No refunds/rain checks unless the entire fair is canceled. Thank you for your continued support of the Washington Town & Country Fair, and of the organizations that benefit from it.
