![]() Dates have been set for the market animal taggings for the 2014 Washington Town & Country Fair. The taggings will be done at the fairgrounds in Washington. Market animals must be owned and in the possession of the exhibitor at tagging. The exhibitor MUST BE present at the tagging. All exhibitors, regardless of age, MUST BE accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Other family members or friends will not be allowed to sign for an exhibitor. This rule will be strictly enforced. Market animals must be tagged, properly entered, and all fees paid by Friday, July 18, 2014 to be eligible to show. Tagging dates and market weight ranges (at fair time) are as follows: MARKET STEER - Saturday, February 15, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (Snow date of Feb. 22 has been set if weather does not permit tagging to take place on above date.) Minimum weight (at fair time) 1000 lbs., maximum weight 1450 lbs. Exhibitors will be allowed to tag two steers, but may only enter one. We will once again have a rate of gain contest for market steers. MARKET HOG - Saturday, April 26, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Minimum weight (at fair time) 240 lbs., maximum weight 290 lbs. Exhibitors will be allowed to tag two animals, but may only enter one. * Exhibitors will be required to provide their Pork Quality Assurance number to be eligible to show. All exhibitors will be required to bring their animal to the tag-in date at the fairgrounds. Exhibitors may bring personal Y-tex tagger to tag their animal. All efforts will be made to ensure sanitary conditions. MARKET LAMB - Saturday, April 26, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Minimum weight (at fair time) 100 lbs., maximum weight 150 lbs. Exhibitors may tag in two animals, but may only enter one. DAIRY- Saturday, April 26, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Junior exhibitors wanting to participate in the milk auction will be required to tag their entry at this time to be eligible to sell at the auction. Exhibitors may tag in two animals, but may only enter one. Steers must be dehorned, have all skurs removed and be castrated with a knife or verified a steer prior to tagging. Barrows must be castrated with a knife prior to tagging. We will have the Open Market Hog Class again this year. Only one entry per farm (exhibitor). No stall fee will be required, but exhibitors are asked to pre-register and follow all health requirements for Market Hog exhibition. Exhibits for this class will be weighed and tagged at the fair. Ultrasound carcass information will be collected and the exhibitors will be provided with this information. NO PREMIUMS WILL BE PAID. The champion on foot will receive a traveling trophy sponsored by the Washington Area Young Farmers. Open Show animals will be sold at a terminal market with proceeds being donated to the charity of the farm's (exhibitor's) choice. The Open Market Hog Class will be judged immediately following the Junior Market Hog Champion selection. Again this year the Washington Town & Country Fair Livestock Committee, in conjunction with the University of Missouri Extension Center, Union, will offer Show Me Quality Assurance and Swine Show clinics. Dates and locations for the clinics will be posted on our website, www.washmofair.com, and our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/washmofair2) and will be provided to 4-H and FFA leaders when they are finalized. * All Junior Exhibitors (Market and Breeding) are required to have a valid Show Me Quality Assurance qualification to be eligible to show. Please check with your FFA Advisor, 4-H Leader, or the University of Missouri Extension Center for possible changes in requirements for PQA and age requirements. At this time we would like to encourage graduating seniors from Franklin or adjoining counties who have participated in the livestock division to apply for a Livestock Scholarship. Deadline for submitting your application is March 31, 2014.
